Win commissions cleanly so your fifty-week calendar survives.

Combat Guide

Combat in TK Punk Gold is the enforcement arm of the raising sim. You can romance, research, and polish the Gold Bar all you want—if commissions against the D.H.C fail, the fifty-week plan bleeds retries. This guide focuses on player-facing combat habits: turn structure, role clarity, prosthetic identity, synergy, and the Cyber Frenzy near-death state. It assumes the Steam Windows single-player release and pairs with Prosthetics Builds and the Synergy Guide.

If you are still learning menus, start at Getting Started and How to Play TK Punk Gold.

What combat is for

Commissions are not side content. They advance GOLD’s resistance work under Zhang Jiao, fund upgrades, and gate story pressure in Hanport City. Treat each fight as a calendar investment: a clean clear costs one planned combat block; a messy clear can cost a week of recovery, healing resources, and delayed bonds. That is why combat skill is time-management skill—see Time Management.

Build a party with jobs, not vibes

Before worrying about ultimate animations, assign jobs:

  • Breaker — opens armor or creates windows for burst
  • Anchor — survives focus fire and holds frontline attention
  • Burst — converts windows into ended fights
  • Support — heals, buffs, or manipulates turn order

Your thirteen-companion roster will not put four perfect specialists on every map. Use the Roster and Companion Tier List to cover missing jobs with prosthetics instead of forcing everyone to be a carry. Bond priority should not automatically equal combat priority—romance favorites who underperform need either better parts or a bench role. Track affection separately with the Bond Tracker.

Prosthetics are your real gear score

Attribute training matters, but prosthetic research is how parties gain identity. Finish lanes that reinforce a strategy—sustained pressure, burst windows, or Frenzy recovery—instead of collecting disconnected modules. A half-finished tree often looks fancy and still loses mid-game commissions. Practical packages live under Prosthetics Builds and the wider Builds Hub. Fund that research with a healthy Gold Bar; Bar Management exists partly so you can afford combat power on schedule.

Synergy beats isolated DPS

Steam’s own framing emphasizes character skills, effects, and equipment stacking beyond “1+1=2.” In play terms: choose two or three interactions you can execute every fight—break then burst, taunt then setup, heal then re-engage—and stop rotating random skills because they are off cooldown. The Synergy Guide is the checklist; this page is the mindset. If your team’s kits do not talk to each other, Cyber Frenzy will do the talking for you.

Cyber Frenzy and near-death play

When companions approach death or enter Cyber Frenzy, the game leans into armor-break presentation and heightened commitment. Thematically it is stylish. Practically it means you are one mistake from a wipe or a costly reset. Good habits:

  • Do not open with glass-cannon positioning just to “see Frenzy art.”
  • Keep an answer for focus fire before you need it.
  • Treat Frenzy as a clutch recovery window, not a damage farm.
  • After any Frenzy scare, ask which prosthetic or turn-order mistake caused it.

Players who intentionally fish for near-death every fight pay for it in the calendar even when they eventually win.

Commission prep checklist

  1. Read the commission’s implied threat—swarm, burst boss, attrition.
  2. Swap to the smallest party that covers required jobs.
  3. Confirm prosthetic nodes for that job are online, not “almost done.”
  4. Bring consumables or support tools if the week’s budget allows.
  5. Decide your win condition before turn one: delete carry, outlast wave, or control timeline.
  6. If you lose, change one variable—loadout, order, or composition—before retrying the same way.

Turn habits that reduce retries

  • Spend early turns creating advantage, not dumping every cooldown.
  • Protect setup characters; dead supports create Frenzy spirals.
  • Finish weakened threats that will act soon instead of overkilling the already-safe target.
  • Reassess after enemy buff phases; stubborn plans cause wipe chains.
  • Leave the fight with resources if another commission is scheduled the same phase.

Linking combat to bonds and endings

Combat-relevant companions still need occasional bond maintenance if you want their scenes and personal endings, but do not confuse “I like this character” with “this character solves the next gate.” Use Bonds and How to Recruit for acquisition timing. Ending lanes from Heaven/Earth/Man rarely reward throwing unwinnable commissions for flavor—keep route play in Faction Routes and Endings Guide, and verify thresholds with the Ending Checklist.

When combat feels unfair

Usually one of these is true:

  • Research is behind the story clock
  • Party jobs overlap and leave a hole
  • Bar poverty delayed prosthetic completion
  • You entered a faction-critical fight with experimental gear
  • Retries have already stolen the week’s mobility budget

Fix the schedule with Time Management and the Week Planner, then return to this page for execution. For broader storefront and patch context, see Updates, Patch Notes, and Achievements if you are chasing combat-related trophies.

Clean commissions are how TK Punk Gold stays a raising sim instead of a retry sim. Build jobs, finish prosthetic lanes, respect Frenzy warnings, and spend your fifty weeks on the endings you actually chose.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Hanport City survivors.

What is Cyber Frenzy in combat?

A near-death state with armor-break presentation where companions fight more desperately. Use it as a clutch warning, not a strategy you farm every battle.

Why do I keep losing commissions?

Most streaks come from unfinished prosthetic lanes, overlapping party jobs, or retrying the same plan. Fix loadout and roles before spending another week.

Should romance favorites always be in the party?

Only if they cover a job. Otherwise keep them for bond scenes and field a commission-ready squad.

Where should I learn builds after this guide?

Open Prosthetics Builds, Synergy Guide, and the Companion Tier List under the Builds Hub.

How does combat affect endings?

Failed or delayed commissions steal weeks you need for Heaven, Earth, or Man polishing and companion thresholds.
